There's A Day For That...

This week we’re celebrating Take Your Plant for a Walk Day. Sounds pretty silly, but what could it hurt. Everyone could use a nice walk. A fun, quirky gimmick is a great excuse to stretch your legs. Maybe even get together for a walk with a friend or group of friends and walk your plants together. In honor of Take Your Plant for a Walk Day here’s a quick post about houseplants.

Did You Know?

There are scientifically researched and proven benefits to having plants in your home or workplace. Plants are soothing and calming to look at have been shown to reduce stress levels and improve mood. Plants are good for indoor air quality, filtering certain toxins from the air and delivering oxygen.

Most house plants are considered tropical and are native to warmer moist climates. A few common examples being Philodendron, Monstera, Prayer Plant, Snake Plant, Pothos, Aloe, Jade, Money Tree, and Rubber Plant. Compared with the outdoor plants native to your area, tropical plants require relatively steady indoor temperature and regular watering. Most plants can get by with watering once a week, or sometimes even less. Your plant should come with a care tag that details the type of lighting, temperature preference and watering needs. Getting it down just right can take some practice and discipline, but it’s a low-risk venture, and getting it right can feel very rewarding.

There are lots of creative ways to display houseplants. Maybe you’re happy with the nursery pot the plant came in. Maybe you want a plant for every room, or maybe you prefer to create a dramatic jungle vibe and fill a whole wall or room with lush green plants. The possibilities are endless. A decorative pot can give your plant a nice glow up. Options range from inexpensive plastic decor to beautifully crafted ceramic. It’s fun to find a pot that matches your personal style, be it a favorite color, or something eclectic that just speaks to you. Terrariums, cloches and dish gardens are alternatives for creating a display of several different plants together and adding decorative elements. Think of it as landscaping for your plant, similar to how a fish tank might contain flourishes of rocks, crystals, shells, sticks, moss, or even on-trend themes like tiny toy animals, dinosaurs or disco balls.

I think the bottom line is, there’s a plant out there for everyone just waiting to be brought home or taken for a walk. I just added one to my collection the other day in fact. I could go on, but I need to go water my Peace Lily.
